Abstract:
This research monograph examines the role of Intellectual Property (IP) in advancing the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the context of Bangladesh. The study investigates
how IP can be leveraged to promote economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental
sustainability within the framework of the SDGs. Bangladesh, a developing country, faces
significant challenges in achieving these goals, including poverty, inequality, and
environmental degradation. However, it also possesses considerable potential for innovation
and growth through effective use of Intellectual Property. The research delves into the
relationship between IP policies and SDGs, analyzing their impact on sectors such as
healthcare, agriculture, technology, and the environment. It also explores the legal and
institutional frameworks surrounding IP in Bangladesh, identifying gaps and suggesting
reforms to better align IP practices with the global sustainable development agenda.
Furthermore, the study highlights both the opportunities and challenges of balancing IP
protection with public access to essential goods and services, particularly in sectors crucial
for SDGs like affordable medicine, clean energy, and food security. Finally, this study provides
a comprehensive analysis of how IP can be a driver for sustainable development in
Bangladesh, offering policy recommendations for optimizing Intellectual Property to foster
inclusive growth and development.
