Abstract:
Open-space waste dumping is a common practice in many parts of Bangladesh, particularly in
urban areas where land scarcity and inadequate waste management infrastructure make proper
disposal challenging. Large piles of garbage can be seen accumulating along roadsides, in vacant
lots, and even in waterways, creating a breeding ground for disease-causing bacteria and viruses.
The decomposition of organic waste releases harmful greenhouse gases, contributing to climate
change. To address the issue of open-space waste dumping, Bangladesh needs to implement
effective waste management strategies. This includes establishing proper waste collection systems,
investing in waste treatment facilities, and promoting waste segregation and recycling practices.
Additionally, raising public awareness about the harmful effects of open-space dumping is crucial
to encourage responsible waste disposal practices. Only through a holistic approach can
Bangladesh hope to overcome the challenges posed by open space waste dumping and pave the
way for a healthier, more sustainable future.
