Abstract:
Natural dyes having very less impact on environment than synthetic dyes are inspiring to find out different cheap, biodegradable, non-toxic, and non-allergenic sources of color. The wastages found in kitchen from different vegetables, fruits and others usages can be one of those sources. Our work is structured with natural dyes extraction from different kitchen wastages and dyeing cotton and polyester fabrics with the extracted dyes liquor. Dyes were extracted from some common kitchen wastages like beet root peel, banana skin, pomegranate skin, onion peel and used tea by aqueous extraction method. After easy dyeing process with mordants, color fastness properties like rubbing fastness, wash fastness and perspiration fastness properties were evaluated using standards testing methods. The color fastness properties are satisfactory for most of the samples dyed by pomegranate skin, onion peel and used tea. Beet root peel and banana skin provided poor to average color fastness properties.
