This study, "Laws on Elderly in Bangladesh: An Overview on the Present Context of
Bangladesh," discusses Bangladesh's senior welfare laws, policies, and issues. Given
demographic trends and the growing older population, the research has highlighted the
lack of enforcement of legislation and gaps in legal frameworks like the Maintenance of
Parents Act, 2013, and the limited reach of welfare programs like the Old Age Allowance.
It highlights financial uncertainty, poor healthcare, and a lack of legal protection for the
elderly, especially in rural and underprivileged populations. The study compares
worldwide best practices to the Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty
reduction, health and well-being, and inequality reduction. The report recommends
strengthening the legislative framework, social security institutions, and community-based
assistance based on these findings. This document proposes policies to provide dignity,
security, and social participation for Bangladesh's ageing population. |
